Shiatsu Massage Therapy relies on the use the fingers, thumbs and palm to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Pressure applied to points on the body promotes energy flow and corrects disharmonies throughout the patient's body. In addition to being a deeply relaxing experience, Shiatsu helps relieve stress, treat pain and illness, and contributes to a patient's overall health and well-being.
Shiatsu regulates the automatic nervous system activity and stimulates the circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal systems. Poor posture, joint problems, sprains, arthritis, sciatica, acute and chronic neck and back pain, sinusitis, and bronchitis can be helped with Shiatsu.
Shiatsu massage therapy uses techniques similar to those found in other treatment methods such as osteopathy, lymphatic drainage and physiotherapy. However, Shiatsu practitioners attribute physical health conditions and diseases to blockages and imbalances in the energy flow throughout the body, which differentiates its diagnosis and treatment from other massage therapy modalities. It uses kneading, acupressure, pressing, soothing, tapping, and stretching techniques to restore muscle and bone structure and is performed without oils through light, comfortable clothing.
How can Shiatsu benefit your health and wellbeing?
Shiatsu is a non-invasive therapy that may help reduce stress and works to improve overall health and well-being by affecting the internal energy system. Proponents believe that it has both preventative and remedial effects. Shiatsu can be used in the treatment of a wide range of internal, musculoskeletal, and emotional conditions and often results in increased range of motion and improved coordination. It is thought to reduce muscle stiffness, stimulate the skin, aid digestion, and influence the nervous system.
Shiatsu is used to treat a wide range of chronic conditions, such as headaches, PMS, digestive disorders, fatigue, insomnia, fibromyalgia, stress, anxiety, and muskuloskeletal pain, including low back, neck, and joint pain. The effect may be stimulating and invigorating or calming and sedative, depending on the goal of the session.

But for others, a high-stress job, family demands, an overactive lifestyle, lack of exercise, or other factors may require Shiatsu sessions on a more regular basis.
